Blackout cellular shades combine the energy efficiency of a honeycomb shade with the full light-blocking of a blackout fabric. The pleated honeycomb fabric traps air at the glass for insulation; the opaque blackout backing blocks light. One shade, two jobs — better for Pittsburgh winters and dark-bedroom needs than either alone.

Both options come in standard cell sizes (3/8", 1/2", 3/4") with the larger cells trapping more air for more insulation but with a chunkier visual profile.
Operation options stack: corded for budget, cordless for safety and a cleaner look, top-down-bottom-up if you want to keep the upper window open while the bottom blackouts (less common with blackout fabric but possible), or motorized for hard-to-reach windows. Side channels are available for the perimeter seal that makes blackout actually black — they matter most in rooms where light leakage will wake you up.
